## The Saiyan Legend Reborn! Goku's Roots ORIGINAL AIRDATE ● SEPTEMBER 20th, 1989 ### 020 DRAGON BALL Z DRAGON BOX Z VOLUME 1 The next training exercise that Kaio-sama gives to Roku is to hit his valet, Gregory, with a hammer. Roku frantically pursues Gregory, who is even faster than Bubbles at running away! Then one day, Kaio tells Roku of the barbarous history of the Saiyans, and how all but four of them had become extinct. Upon hearing the tale, Roku's fighting spirit is fully released, and he devotes himself to his training to defeat the Saiyan! ## Close-Up!! ### EPISODE 18 A solid bond develops between Piccolo and Gohan!! Piccolo notices the unfathomable latent abilities that are hidden within Gohan's small body and presses severe training on Gohan. At the beginning, Piccolo dealt with Gohan cold-heartedly, thinking that the training was just for securing a battle force; however, while being in contact with Gohan's innocent mind, his frame of mind starts to change. Also, Gohan, too, senses in Piccolo's severe attitude a growing trust and hope towards him, and gradually develops a deep respect for Piccolo. The crisis brought on by the Saiyan invasion has unexpectedly created a strong teacher-student bond between these two. ## Coming Up!! ### PRINCESS SNAKE **"Please... Don't go..."** She is the princess of the palace on Serpentine Road who is always attended by many chambermaids. She falls in love with Roku, who is on his way to see Kaio-sama, at first sight and tries to keep him from leaving through extreme means. Actually, she also fell in love with King Yama who passed by the palace 500 years ago... She is usually a woman beautiful enough to have won the "Miss Next Life Contest", but her true form is...? ## The Battle with Gravity! Catch Bubbles-kun ORIGINAL AIRDATE ● SEPTEMBER 13th, 1989 ### 019 DRAGON BALL Z DRAGON BOX Z VOLUME 1 Goku finally arrives at Kaio's World, where he meets Kaio-sama! He somehow manages to pass the super pun-loving Kaio's gag test, and at last begins his training on Kaio's World. For three weeks, he attempts to catch Kaio's pet monkey, Bubbles, because of the gravity there, which is ten times greater than Earth's. Having finally conquered the gravity, Roku catches Bubbles, and Kaio begins to place a certain hope in him. ## Close-Up!! ### EPISODE 20 The history of Saiyans, the strongest, most wicked warrior race The Primitive Saiyans, the ancestors of the Saiyans, used to live side by side with the Tsufruians on one planet. At one point, the Saiyans attacked the Tsufruians and annihilated them in the blink of an eye. However, since they destroyed the Tsufruians, who possessed high intelligence, the civilization of the planet stagnated. So, they made contracts with other aliens; they invaded other planets and gave them to other aliens in exchange for their technology and resources. This threat terrified the people of the universe and the Saiyans were feared as "the strongest, most wicked race". ### 021 DRAGON BALL Z DRAGON BOX Z VOLUME 1 Goku ends his training on Kaio's World, and tries out the force of an ultimate technique taught to him by Kaio, the Genki Dama. However, the Saiyans were approaching Earth sooner than expected. Even worse, Kaio discovers he made another miscalculation, and upon being brought back to life with the Dragon Balls, Roku has to return to the lower realm at breakneck speed. He dashes down the Serpentine Road at full power. And then, the ultimate nightmare descends from the heavens!
